The line x tester analysis involving eight promising lines collected from different leading centers
working on desi cotton in India revealed that DD-8NLF exhibited positive significant gca effects for
more number of characters like plant height, number of bolls per plant, boll weight, seed cotton
yield per plant, lint index and seed index traits. Amongst males, MDL-2582 showed positive significant
effects and proved to be better general combiner for number of bolls per plant, seed cotton yield per
plant, ginning out turn and lint index. The cross DD-8NLFxMDL-2582 exhibited significant sca
estimates for seed cotton yield per plant and halo length traits. As regards the heterosis DD-
8NLFxMDL-2582 exhibited better heterotic response for number of bolls per plant and seed cotton
yield per plant, while other characters showed moderately to low response for heterosis.
