An investigation was carried out during 2007 and 2008 in the instructional farm of Uttar
Banga Krishi Viswavidyalaya, Pundibari, Cooch Behar, to evaluate the effect of phosphocompost
on yield, net income and phosphorus uptake pattern of groundnut in acid soil under terai region
of west Bengal. The experiment was laid out in RBD with three replications. Among the yield
attributes of groundnut, percentage of mature pods, number of mature pods plant-1, 100 pod
weight and pod yield were significantly better in T7 (150% phosphocompost grade-I ) than the
phosphocompost grade-II (lower percentage of total phosphorus) and sole application of single
super phosphate. Performance of T5 (100% phosphocompost grade-I) and T6 (125%
phosphocompost grade-I) was at par in most of the yield attributing characteristics of groundnut.
Total phosphorus uptake was increased consistently with crop age up to 90 days after sowing,
wherever phosphocompost grade-I was applied in higher doses (100% and above) over sole
application of chemical fertiliser
