Field experiment was conducted during Summer 2008 and kharif 2008 under aerobic condition at Agricultural Research Station, Kathalagere, Davangere, Southern transition zone of Karnataka.  The study consisted of 8 treatments viz., Weedy check, Hand weeding at 20 and 40 DAS, Pyrazosulfuron @ 25 g a.i./ha at 5 DAS, Pyrazosulfuron @ 25 g a.i./ha at 5 DAS + T2,  Butachlor @ 1.0 kg a.i./ha at 5 DAS, Butachlor @ 1.0 kg a.i./ha at 5 DAS + T2, Sunrice (Ethoxysulfuron) @ 20 g a.i./ha at 20 DAS and Sunrice (Ethoxysulfuron) @ 20 g a.i./ha at 20 DAS + Hand weeding at 40 DAS.  The application of Pyrazosulfuron @ 25 g a..i./ha at 5 DAS and one hand weeding at 20 and 40 DAS recorded significantly higher grain yield (5082 and 4305 kg/ha in summer and kharif, respectively). The weedy check recorded significantly lower grain and straw yield (93 and 100 kg/ha, respectively) during summer. Infestation of weeds in kharif caused complete failure of crops.
