The north eastern part of the state is considered agriculturally more advance as compared to the south western part. The physical conditions in this semi-arid part of the state are favorable to grow two or more crops in an agriculture year . The study was conducted at village Bazida Jattan located at 29º36'46'' north latitude and 78º.58'.1" east longitude in district Karnal to asses the changing land use and cropping pattern. It is a representative sample of Karnal and shares agricultural characteristics and problems encountered in this area. In order to maximize their farm return, the farmers prefer rice-wheat cropping pattern. This has surpassed the other crops in terms of area, production and productivity but the land of this part is now cultivated for various purposes such as, vegetables, pulses, fodder and staple food in order to get a maximum return from per unit area. Farmers discontinued cultivation of maize, gram, cotton, and bajra crops.
