A total of one hundred thirty one genotypes were tested against early shoot borer (Chilo inluscatellus Snellen) which consisted of 39,46 and 46 genotypes during 1995–96, 1996–97 and 1997–98 crop season, respectively. Based on the incidence, 30 genotypes were rated as tolerant, 48 as moderately tolerant, 52 as susceptible and 1 as highly susceptible having pest incidence 0.0 to 5.0, 5.1 to 10.0, 10.1 to 20.0 and above 20.0, respectively. The highest incidence of early shoot borer was recorded in genotypes S-90-337 (15.9%), CoS 90269 (18.7%) and CoH 98 (32.09%) during the years 1994–95, 1995–96 and 1996–97, respectively. The genotypes viz. CoH 108 and CoP 8421-1 maintained their status as susceptible and moderately tolerant for three and two consecutive years.
