A field experiment was carried out during kharif seasons to study the effect of organic and inorganic sources of nitrogen on yield, yield attributes and quality of rice. Green manured plots with dhaincha (Sesbania aculeate), alongwith 25% recommended N gave, equivalent grain and higher straw yield to recommend N and therefore, about 90 kg nitrogen from chemical sources can be saved. Dhaincha + 25% recommended N also enhanced the milling percentage, head rice recovery, amylose content and minimized gelatinisation temperature.
