WOMEN INVOLVEMENT IN PADDY CULTIVATION IN HARYANA STATE

ABSTRACT
The present study was undertaken in two randomly selected villages of Kaithal district namely
Kaul and Deoban and from Kurukshetra district villages Mirzapur and Kirmich. Under phase-I a
sample of 200 respondents actively involved in paddy cultivation were selected to study their
involvement in various paddy activities. The result of the study showed that majority of the
respondents were of young age, illiterate, belonged to middle caste, had medium level of family
education status and had nuclear family system. Sixty per cent of the respondents had occupation
as agriculture and 39 per cent of them were landless. Average number of days 40.82 spent
annually by farm women in paddy cultivation were highest in transplanting activity and time
spent hrs/day in harvesting activity was 9.39. Participation of women was found highest (84%) in
transplanting activity.
