Field studies were carried out at farmers' fields In village Balasmand, Hisar during 1997–98 and 1998–1999 to investigate the comparative performance of traditional methods of sunflower sowing i.e. dibbling on ridges, kera and broadcasting with manual planter. The effective field capacities were observed 0.10, 0.012, 0.070 and 0.09 ha/h with manual planter, dibbling on ridges, kera and broadcasting, respectively. The net saving In cost of sowing operation by planter over dibbling, kera and broadcasting was Rs. 1080.67, Rs 1312.24 and Rs. 1224.2, respectively. Statistical analysis showed significantly higher grain yie1d under manual planter as compared to kera and broadcasting.
